A Dog Year – Jeff Bridges

Last night the wife and I rented “A Dog Year” starring Jeff Bridges. We always get a kick out of dog movies, and Jeff Bridges is a very interesting actor. It was a story based on the memoir of New York Times best-selling author Jon Katz.  It’s about a writer at a mid-life crossroads who agrees to adopt and train a high-strung border collie named Devon, only to discover it’s he himself who has the lessons to learn. It’s was pretty good. Kristin & I enjoyed it.

Check out the trailer.

Chicken and Cheese Bunny Balls

Here is a great recipe for some homemade dog treats.

Ingredients

2 cups Bisquick

1 cup pre cooked chopped chicken

1 cup lowfat shredded cheddar cheese

1   1/2 cup of water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients in
medium sized bowl (I kneaded dough for approximately
3 minutes to ensure all ingredients were mixed well).
Dough will be sticky. Form dough into balls and place
onto well greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

ISLAND POTCAKE DOGS – Book

We are expecting our first child here at POTCAKE Headquarters. Due date is July 23. So as we prepare for the baby, we are collecting everything we are going to need. That includes children’s books.

I stumbled upon “Island Potcake Dogs”

The adventures of 2 wild dogs, Pot and Cakes, who find a way to survive extreme hardships in the Bahamas and come to live happy lives in the U.S.

I just ordered it on Amazon. Looks like it’s a book that will be right up my alley.

Hope Town Lighthouse – Bahamas

Hope Town is the home to the famous Elbow Reef Lighthouse.  Probably the most recognizable landmark in Abaco, the lighthouse is one of the last manual lighthouses in the world.  The lamp burns pressurized Kerosene oil with a wick and mantle.  The Fresnel lenses concentrate the mantle’s light into a beam directed straight towards the horizon.  The lenses and burner equipment, weighing 8,000lbs, float in a circular lubricated tub.  This reduces friction so that the 700lbs of weight, when wound up to the top of the tower by hand, smoothly rotates the 4-ton apparatus once every 15 seconds.  The lighthouse keeper on duty must wind up the weights every 2 hours in order for the red and white candy-striped lighthouse to be seen from 17 miles away.

The view from the lighthouse.
